Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study

Disciple is a dynamic, thematic approach to Bible study developed on the underlying assumption that people are hungry for the word of God, for fellowship in prayer and study, and for a sense of meaningful ministry as Christian disciples. Ultimately, the goal of Disciple is to transform people's lives and to develop biblically-nourished servant leaders who will serve Christ in the church and in the world.

DISCIPLE I - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
This is a 34 week study of the Old and New Testaments during which participants will read and study all or part of almost every book in the Bible. This class is appropriate for both beginners and longtime students of the Bible.
Cost $30.

DISCIPLE II - Into the Word Into the World
This intensive study is divided into four segments. Each of the books of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts are studied for eight weeks. Like Disciple I the lessons include thought provoking questions for the individual and group. This study emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately.
Prerequisite: Disciple I. Cost $30.

DISCIPLE III - Remember Who You Are
This thirty-two week study concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart”. The prophets spoke for God, out of the community, and to the community. Paul’s experience of the risen Lord, his relationship to the community he addressed, his Jewish traditions, and the Greco-Roman culture of his day merged in his writing of the letters.
Prerequisite: Disciple I. Cost $30.

DISCIPLE IV - Under The Tree Of Life
This is an intensive 32-week study of Old and new Testament Writings. In the Old Testament the books of Ruth, Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel are studied. In the New Testament the Gospel of John; 1st, 2nd, 3rd John; James; Jude and Revelation are covered.
Prerequisite: Disciple I. Cost $30.

CHRISTIAN BELIEVER
This 30-week study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith presents, explains, and interprets Christian doctrine as the basic teaching of the church. It emphasizes the relationship of worship, belief, and daily life. The beliefs taught within the Christian community equip the Christian community for living faithfully and for passing on the faith entrusted to it.
Prerequisite: Disciple I. Cost $40.

JESUS IN THE GOSPELS
The first study in a new line of Disciple second generation studies, Jesus in the Gospels is an in-depth study of portraits of Jesus in the four Gospels. In this 32 week study, participants will gain better understanding of each of the four Gospels as a distinct portrait of Jesus, and gain a greater appreciation for Jesus' historical time, place and Jewish tradition. Most importantly, you can expect to be confronted and challenged weekly by a Jesus who calls for a deeper commitment and allegiance.
Prerequisite: Disciple I. Cost $40.

Have you wanted to take Disciple Bible Study but just couldn't commit to a long-term study? Have you wanted to participate in a short-term Bible study, but also wanted it to have depth and focus? Have you prayed about a desire to increase your knowledge of the Holy Scriptures? Do you long for spiritual growth even as you cope with the hectic demands of daily life? Then the following studies is for You!

Invitation to the New Testament
Using Matthew's Gospel as a starting point, this study explores how the new Testament writers and the early Christian community wrestled with the coming of Jesus--his life, actions, mission, death, and resurrection--and the implications of his arrival for their lives and their communities of faith.
Moving through the Gospel of Matthew sequentially, the overarching themes from this story of Jesus provide the conversation topics for each of the eight sessions. Each theme is then traced through other related passages in the New Testament.
Who is Jesus and what is his significance for our lives? Participants are invited to join this conversation, to study afresh this story of Jesus, and to learn more about their calling to discipleship and to community.

Invitation to Genesis
A new short-term, in-depth Bible study modeled after the basic design of Disciple. This study is an invitation to see Genesis not simply as a study about “The Beginning” (Creation), but to see it as a book about beginnings. From Adam and Eve to Noah to Abraham, Genesis recounts God’s persistence in “starting over” with God’s people. It is a message both timeless and timely—for God’s people still seek the assurance that God is always working to make right what went wrong “in the beginning”. A minimum of 8 students is required.
Cost: $10
