Great Day of Service 2011 - Projects  

This year Northbrook is working with a number of organizations to bring us another Great Day of Service. On April 16th you will have an opportunity to volunteer your time or financial resources to this one great day.

Opening Service will be at Northbrook UMC at 8:30AM
Closing Service and BBQ at Birmingham UMC at 4:00PM
All projects are from 8:30AM – 2:00PM
unless otherwise noted or completed early.

2011 Offsite Projects

 

  The Drake House Landscaping and General Maintenance
Join a team to help with general site improvement projects at The Drake House apartments including landscaping and apartment maintenance. The Drake House mission is to provide short term crisis housing, assessment, support, and empowerment to homeless mothers and their children in the North Fulton area.

  Enable of GA Landscaping and Painting
Improve the curb appeal of the Enable facility by putting out mulch, planting flowers, and painting a privacy fence. Families with supervised children are welcome. Since 1979, we have enabled adults with developmental disabilities to live meaningful and active lives. We support the choices made by those we serve so they are empowered to lead the lives they desire.

Habitat for Humanity

1st day of construction on district Habitat House
7:30AM – 4:00PM
Be a part of the exciting first day of construction for the UMC North Georgia Conference's Habitat for Humanity House. Activities will include: Clearing crawlspace and painting foundation, setting floor joists, laying floor decking, running, straightening, and bracing walls. Lunch is provided and skilled supervisors are on-site to oversee the day’s activity.

  Restore Gardening and Tree Trimming
Prepare the Restore garden for Spring planting and help with tree trimming and shrub removal from the property. Restore Neurobehavioral Center provides community based, residential services specializing in both the treatment as well as long-term support of adults who have experienced a brain injury with a combination of functional limitations and an inability to appropriately self regulate behavior.

  Stewart Center (Street Grace affiliate) Grounds Improvement and Repair
Volunteers to do maintenance on aging facilities. Some of the jobs needing attention include setting a basketball goal pole in concrete and mounting the backboard, repairing/replacing broken window panes, repairing/replacing damaged vinyl siding, painting and cleaning the facilities. We encourage and are equipped to handle family participation.

  North Fulton Community Charities Easter Baskets for Kids
Volunteers are needed to sort, prepare and package Easter baskets for needy children using items collected by preschool. NFCC is a leader in North Fulton offering assistance to over 5,000 families annually. In 2010, food was distributed over 22,238 times, over 2,000 families utilized clothing vouchers, and $1.1 million dollars was expended for direct aid to our clients in need of financial assistance

The Hope Store (Street Grace affiliate)

Sorting and Stocking Merchandise
Volunteers are needed to help sort merchandise, restock shelves, and take in donations. Our mission is to financially support God's work in the community. We accept donations of household items and sell them to raise funding for non-profit charities and ministries.

Homestretch River Run Fundraiser     

5K, 10K, or Fun Run
Enjoy a scenic run/walk along the Chattahoochee River as you join fellow runners and walkers in the 10th Annual Choate Construction Run the River 5K/10K. There are 3 events. 5K starts at 7:30 AM; 10K starts at 8:15; Fun Run at 8:30. Fees $25 per Individual thru April 10th, $30 thereafter. $75 for a Family of up to 4 members.

  Act Together Ministries Organize Kids Items in Warehouse
Work together to organize toys and other children's items in the Act Together Ministries Warehouse.

  7 Bridges To Recovery Feed the Homeless
Pass out lunches and hygiene items to those living under the bridges in Atlanta. We feed because Jesus fed but ultimately, we are there to share the love of Christ with each person we come into contact with. We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes because sometimes the bridges can be slippery
 
  Senior Services of N. Fulton Yard Work for the Elderly

  Rainbow Village Planting and Seeding
Improve the grounds at Rainbow Village by restoring flower beds, planting trees, and seeding grass.

landscaping clean up around our school. install pine straw, mulch, rake leaves, and clear a walking path

  Foster Care Support Clothes Sorting & Babysitting
Assist in the local Roswell warehouse and store by sorting clothing and restocking. Ladies may help foster teens choose clothing. Some assistance may be needed in providing childcare for children in the nursery.

Make pillow cases to help brighten the day of ill children across North America.

  Northbrook UMC Shut-Ins Fruit Basket Assembly and Delivery
Create and deliver fruit baskets to Northbrook UMC members that are confined to their homes.
Family friendly
  NFCC Food Drive Gather donations for NFCC
Distribute donation bags for canned goods to your neighbors the week before and collect/sort items during our Great Day of Service with other participants.

  Feed the Homeless  
Prepare and deliver lunch bags to homeless in Atlanta
Put together lunch bags and be a part of a group to deliver them to homeless in the Atlanta area.
