Welcome to Northbrook UMC Nursery. We are happy you
have entrusted us with the care of your child while
you are in Worship Service and/or Sunday School. We
have a long history of excellent childcare with loving
workers who are eager to make your child's and your
Northbrook experience a pleasant one.
LOCATION
Our infant nursery (0-12 months) is located upstairs
in Building B on the left in Room 211. Our other nurseries
are located downstairs in Building B in the following
rooms:
Toddler Nursery (12 -24 months) - Room 103
Young Twos - Room 102
Older Twos - Room 104
SIGN IN PROCEDURES
Please sign your child in at their room. You will need
to put your location and list any special needs/allergies
on our sign in sheet. You will be given a nursery tag
with a number. A matching tag will be placed on your
child's bag. You must turn your tag in when picking
up
your child.
Beepers are available at each nursery room. We will
assign you a beeper number. That number will be logged
on the sign in sheet at your child's room. We ask that
you keep the beeper
on you so you can feel the vibration. Please do not
put the beeper in your purse. Please "hand off"
your child to the nursery worker. We ask that you don't
enter the room because it adds to the confusion. Rest
assured that even if your child is upset when you leave,
it will be only minutes before they settle into the
business of playing with the toys and the other children.
Although, should your child continue to be upset for
an extended period of time, we will beep you. Please
don't linger in the halls where they can see you. All
of our childcare workers are accustomed to helping your
child adjust happily to the room and the children.
LABEL YOUR BELONGINGS
Please label your diaper bag, sippy cups, and bottles
with your child's name. If you need a bag-tag for your
bag, please let the nursery worker know, and we will
be happy to provide you with one.
WORKERS AND VOLUNTEERS
Each room is staffed with two paid nursery workers and
one or more volunteers. Our policy at Northbrook is
if you use the nursery on a regular basis, your name
will be put on our volunteer list. We rotate our volunteers
on a quarterly basis, which means you will only
have to be in the nursery one hour every three months.
You have a choice of switching times with anyone on
the schedule to make it more convenient for you. Please
just let the Nursery Coordinator know about the switch.
We try not to put you in the room with your own child.
Volunteering in the nursery is a very rewarding experience,
and we are dependent on our volunteers to keep our child/adult
ratio low.
ILL OR INJURED CHILDREN
If your child is obviously ill or injured, we will utilize
our beeper system. Remember that we ask you to please
keep the beeper on your possession not in your purse.
PICK-UP
Please be prompt in picking up your child from the nursery
as any delay can result in distress. It is most traumatic
when a child sees all the other children leaving and
imagines himself abandoned. We hope you will use our
loving nursery on a regular basis so you can participate
in Worship and Sunday School each week. We love to get
to know your children and look forward to seeing them
each Sunday.
