Rev. Laurie Moeller, Senior Pastor
Laurie was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Texas Christian University in 1994 with a degree in English and Speech Communications. During her senior year of college, she began to sense a call to ministry and upon graduation, moved to Atlanta to attend Candler School of Theology at Emory University. In 1997, Laurie was appointed to First United Methodist Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and served there two years before returning to Georgia to marry John Moeller in 1999. She has served at Stripling Chapel UMC in Carrollton, First UMC of Marietta, Brookhaven UMC in Atlanta, Mt. Zion UMC in Marietta, and Level Creek UMC in Suwanee before an appointment to Northbrook UMC in 2017.
Laurie’s husband John is also an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and serves as the CEO of Inspiritus, a nonprofit in Atlanta working with disaster relief, refugee services and foster care. They have two daughters: Anna Kate, who is a student at Mississippi State University, and Sara, who is a student at Walton High School. The family has two dogs, Rosie and Cali, and enjoys spending time in the North Georgia mountains.
Rev. Kena Newkirk, Associate Pastor
Rev. Kena Hawkins Newkirk is a provisional Elder in the North Georgia Conference of the UMC. She has a bachelor's degree in Communication and Religion from Campbell University. Kena has spent the last 10 years working in youth ministries, most recently at Fayetteville First UMC.
Kena moved to the Atlanta area from Raleigh, NC, in to attend Candler Seminary at Emory University, and work at Northside UMC. On her first day of work, she met her now-husband William, who was on staff doing missions. Their son Jonah (1 1/2) was born on their third wedding anniversary. Kena enjoys ultimate frisbee, her Aussie-doodle Blue, trivia, blogging, and traveling. She has a background in biblical languages and has visited nearly 20 countries.
